GoodDay + Loop: Returns Come Full Circle

Today, GoodDay’s native Loop integration goes live.

This one is personal for me.

Dave Wardell and I were fortunate to be co-founders of Loop while at Chubbies. We are now co-founders at GoodDay. And, the truth is GoodDay would not exist without our experience at Loop.

The core insight from Loop: The best commerce infrastructure is built by brand operators who have lived the pain directly and understand it intimately. 

At Chubbies, the returns process was not an abstract workflow. It was core to our overall experience and pre-Loop, it was painful. Customers needed a better, more self-service experience. Our CX team needed a lot more visibility and context to help customers. Loop has been masterful in solving a huge part of that problem and now has over 5,000 of the best brands on Shopify.

But, there was always a second derivative operational problem that remains elusive today. 

The Returns Accounting Problem.

Most brand operators know returns can be one of the messiest, hardest to manage numbers on the P&L. Every controller feels it in the financial close process. A return gets initiated via Loop. Shopify reverses or modifies orders/revenue. The warehouse receives the item days later. Inventory moves on one clock, financial reconciliations on another, and somewhere in the middle the business is trying to understand what actually happened. 

For years, the answer for the accounting team has been spreadsheets, manual exports, work-arounds, and a lot of “that seems close enough.”

That can’t be the right end state.

Returns are not an edge case in modern commerce. For many Shopify brands (👀 on all the emerging footwear brands out there), the returns process is one of the largest and most complex operating flows in the business. It affects revenue, lifetime value, repeat rates, inventory positions, COGS, customer experience, and cash flow. Yet the systems that manage those pieces have historically been disconnected.

GoodDay and Loop exist together to close that gap with an elegant solution. 

With the first iteration of our integration, Loop data now flows directly into GoodDay’s inventory and financial ledger. Returns move through draft, in transit, and received inventory statuses inside GoodDay. Finance can see what has been refunded, what inventory is actually back, what should be restocked, and what revenue should actually be recognized.

That is the part I am most excited about. This is not just an integration between two apps. It is two innovative companies, working on behalf of our brands to solve one of the hairiest problems in commerce infrastructure.

Loop is THE market leading returns platform in the Shopify ecosystem. GoodDay is building THE AI-native ERP alternative for emerging Shopify brands. Together, we are uniquely positioned to solve returns accounting in a way that is native, practical, and built for the way merchants really operate.

I also love what this represents philosophically.

It’s easy to imagine a future where vertical software drifts towards consolidation. 

GoodDay is proudly betting its future on the fact that best-of-breed technology providers with deep domain expertise and genuine depth to their products will win the day. This will only happen if we collectively have a high degree of interoperability and truly innovate together for the ecosystem. Merchants should not have to choose between great customer experiences and clean financial operations. They should get both end-to-end and we won’t rest until that is true.

This is day one of a multi-year roadmap with Loop.
