When a brand asks me what makes GoodDay different from the ERPs they've used or evaluated, I usually skip the feature list and start with philosophy, because the philosophy is what drives everything else.
Ours is simple, and it's antithetical to the ERPs of the past: it is our job to mobilize your data to get you value. Period. Hard stop. It's our responsibility. We work tirelessly to make integrations work, because everything we do is a process of mobilizing your data and getting it to you so you can make powerful decisions against it.
That sounds obvious, but it isn't. Most ERP companies operate on the opposite philosophy, and if you've ever run operations on a legacy ERP system, you've paid for it.
Here's where this conviction comes from. At Chubbies, we were five years into a NetSuite implementation. It was working... We had put in the time, the money, and the consultants. Then we needed one new integration.
The answer: four months and $30,000, because new software had to be developed to get anything to work. Five years in, fully implemented, and connecting one more tool was a custom development project with its own budget line.
I remember thinking, we need to build a world where you can just turn it on.
That moment is baked into how GoodDay is built. Not as a feature, as a worldview.
Legacy ERPs and the all-in-one platforms chasing them share the same playbook: try to own every module. Returns, warehouse management, EDI, planning, shipping. Bring it all inside the walls.
On a slide, that looks like simplicity. In practice, it means three things for your brand:
The first is that you get a mediocre version of everything. No single company builds the best returns product, the best WMS, the best EDI connection, and the best inventory management at the same time. When your ERP vendor owns every module, you inherit their weakest ones.
The second is that your data becomes their lock-in. Closed systems make it hard to pull your own data out, because friction is the business model. Every export that requires a consultant, every API that costs extra, every integration that takes a quarter to build is switching cost working in the vendor's favor, not yours.
The third is that your stack stops evolving. The best operators are constantly upgrading their tools. When adding a tool means a four-month development project, you stop adding tools. Your operations freeze at whatever the ERP decided to build.
We think that whole model is dead.
GoodDay took the opposite position from day one: be the inventory-first operational layer for Shopify brands, integrate with the best tool for every other job, and treat data access as a right, not an upsell.
In practice, that looks like this. You run returns through Loop? Great, Loop is excellent at returns. We integrate with it rather than trying to replace it. Same with your 3PL or WMS, where we connect to more than 50 systems including ShipHero. Same with EDI through Crstl, NuOrder, and SPS Commerce for wholesale. Same with QuickBooks for accounting. Shopify itself isn't an integration at all, because GoodDay is Shopify-native and lives where your team already works.
These are pre-built connectors that sync in real time. You turn them on. No custom development, no four-month project, no $30,000 invoice. And when a connector doesn't exist yet, making it work is our job, not yours. That's what taking responsibility for mobilizing your data means.
The result is one clean operational layer where everything comes together: orders, inventory, purchase orders, wholesale, financials. Not because we built every tool, but because we integrated every tool and made the data flow.
If the open-versus-closed question mattered before, AI makes it existential.
AI is only as useful as the data it can reach. A model with partial data gives you partial answers, and partial answers about inventory are how brands oversell, stock out, and tie up cash in the wrong SKUs.
Because GoodDay sits at the point where all of your operational data converges, it's the natural foundation for putting AI to work in your business. We've already opened that up: GoodDay's MCP integration puts your live inventory, purchase orders, and sales orders directly inside Claude, where you can ask questions and take action without leaving the conversation. Our APIs are open to you and your partners.
A closed ERP can't offer that, and this is the part I'd urge every operator to sit with. If your system of record makes it hard for you to pull your own data, it will make it just as hard for your AI. The walled garden that was an annoyance in 2020 is a ceiling on your capabilities in 2026.
If you're evaluating systems right now, you don't have to take our word for any of this. Ask every vendor, including us, four questions:
How long does it take to connect a new tool, and what does it cost? The honest answer tells you whether integrations are a product or a professional services revenue stream.
Can I pull my data out myself, today, without a consultant? If the answer involves a statement of work, that's your answer.
Do you charge extra for MCP or AI access? Your data shouldn't sit behind a paywall inside software you already pay for.
What happens when a better tool comes along for returns, or planning, or fulfillment? A partner says "we'll integrate with it." A walled garden says "we have our own version of that."
The answers separate companies that see your data as your asset from companies that see it as their moat.
We didn't arrive at this philosophy in a strategy session. We arrived at it running brands, waiting on integration quotes, and watching data sit in systems that treated access as a negotiation.
That's why brands like The Normal Brand have driven $1.5M in incremental revenue on GoodDay, and why SENIQ went live in about a month instead of a year. When your ERP's job is mobilizing your data instead of guarding it, value shows up fast.
Legacy ERPs are dead. The all-in-one walled garden is dying. What replaces them is open, integrated, and built to make your data work for you.
